Job Description: Wranglers are responsible for guiding groups of 1-3 riders on horseback rides alone, anything over 3-4 guests, 2 wranglers will be present. Majority of our guests are new or first time riders, so extensive horse experience on your end is required, as you must be very confident teaching others how to ride safely.
You must also be able to read horses personalities and behaviors.
Our trail rides / tours are stunning and always a pleasure to ride. Taking you through slot canyons, climbing sand dunes, and riding below beautiful rock formations. Rides are 2 hours long with an occasional 1 hour tour. When you are not guiding, our wranglers are also responsible for all the horses care, feeding, watering, cleaning pens, and ensuring all the horses are safe and happy. We have extremely high standards of horse care. So it’s essential that you do too :)
The Schedule: We are looking for year round wranglers, though seasonal employment can be discussed. We typically work 5-6 days a week depending how busy we are with rides. In the summer months, we can start work as early as 4:30am and we end our days as late as 9pm (when it’s the hottest months) you will generally be off in the middle of the day when it’s hot in the summer. We are busiest in the months of March-June and then September-December. But we still get plenty of rides during our slower months, and there’s still plenty of work to be had caring for our herd of 35 horses when there are less rides.
The Housing: we do not offer housing at the Stables. But there are several options within a 2 mile radius of the Stables. There are 2 campgrounds where someone could park their own rv, they also have several RVs for rent. There is a large house with several studio/dormitory style rooms available for rent, and also a couple RVs. The price of accommodations at these options range from $450-800 per month. Utilities are around $100 a month.
The Pay: our pay varies between hourly pay for daily chore's and projects, and then we pay our wranglers “per ride”. This pay is done on a training scale, you will start at a “training rate” first, as you’re in training with other wranglers, then the pay goes up once you are trained and able to guide on your own. We also frequently receive tips, which are yours to keep! *split between multiple wranglers for 4+ guests.
The area: As mentioned above, we are in a very remote area of the desert. The city of Page Arizona, is about 25 min away, and the town of Kanab Utah is about 45 min away. This area is ideal for people that truly love the outdoors. We have endless activities for nature lovers. From horseback riding, hiking, and rock climbing, to boating and swimming. World famous Lake Powell is a short 20 min away. Page Az. offers modern shopping needs with a Super Walmart, Safeway, a movie theater, a bowling alley and many great restaurants. But this is not a town for people craving frequent social events and late nights on the town. The city of St. George, Utah is about 2.15 hours away and offers many more shopping and entertainment options.
